I just had a great chat with a Donaldson Engineer (Jerry) about my by-pass oil filter system. I currently use a Donaldson P551550 filter per the great one AKA Dr Lee  .
The Engineer pointed me to a newer filter for the same filter head P560693 (P179089 is the long version) its about $18.00.

He also said that this filter would filter even better, but the price is high ($53.00) and would require a new filter head.

Dr. Lee do you think these are worth the extra $$ for what they remove. What do you think of the new standards for measuring what a filter can remove?
ps I've been running the P551550 by-pass filter with mostly Baldwin's B1428 full flow filter (with a Fram TG5 at times when I can't get the B1428)since about 55,000 miles and currently have 178,000 miles on my 97 6.5 without any internal wrenching.
