This weekend and I am rolling in new bearings and replacing the oil pump on my 98' 6.5L with 195K. Of course the new oil pump does not come with drive shaft which can easily be transferred from the old pump. However, the shaft retaining collar is plastic, it was very brittle and in broke when I removed it. How critical is this retainer? I am sure I am not the first one to break this and yet it is not like the oil pump came with this $2.00 part. I am debating if I wait a week and order one or if I re-assemble with out it.
