Headliner replacement

I’ve read to replace the headliner you need to go through the windshield..anyone do this?
RANT: why can’t GM find a adhesive that will keep the headliner in place?? It’s dumb to
take the material right to the edge, why not wrap it under??

You don't have to remove the windshield to R/R the headliner in an extended cab. You do with a crew cab because it has a center B-pillar, unlike the E/C with suicide rear doors and no center pillar. Just open both doors and it will go out/in with a little manipulation. If the manipulation is more than you're comfortable with, remove a front door.

Some headliners hang in there forever. Others droop. I've had one droop, and I know the cause. Volatile chemicals left in the cab a couple days during summer killed the adhesive. Made all the plastic and rubber tacky, too. That was an older vehicle. My 2001 still looks new, after 20 summers of 150F cab temps (minus the chemicals). Whoever selected the adhesive may not have considered your environment but, by the looks of it, most people got a good one. If your headliner failed due to something you did or allowed, expect a new headliner to fail the same, under the same condition. Or it was defective from the factory. Why GM, or any MFG, does what it does is beyond me. Ask Mary or the union.

The VOCs from tobacco smoke will also dissolve the foam that's used for the padding in many 'modern' headliners. I also tend to yell at passengers who seem intent on touching the headliner. The foam could be in sad shape, but can stay put until someone gives it a failure point to start at.

I’m not a smoker, wife’s 2006 gmc has the same issues
