Well had to change mine this weekend. My hands are just a little to big for the space allowed. Was easy to get electrical lead off, but the next time it won't be as easy. New one cinched down 180 degrees off from the original so the release tap is up now instead of down where you can see it.

The trick I found was to place a jack under the bell housing and was able to lift engine trans about 1/4 in to get just enough room to reach in and get the new one started. I tried a piece of fuel hose in the end of it like I have done with deep recessed spark plugs but it just wouldn't work.

Hope this helps someone else out down the line.

Hmmm... Maybe remove the driver's side wheelhouse and intercooler piping first. Just a guess. These two items come out fairly easy.

I just finished the install for a 6.5 OPS, which is located at the back of the engine up against the firewall. I thought about a remote mount for that OPS using some hydraulic hose/fittings... The switch itself may require a grounding... I dunno. I'd like to get the packaging engineers at DMAX/GMPT to do some of these part changes... That would be entertaining... ;)

On the Duramax its on the side of the block just ahead of the oil filter mounting assembly. To get to it you have to reach in over front diff.

Mine is an LBZ and OPS screws directly into the block where that light colored bolt is between the motor mount and the oil filter housing. Puts it almost on top of the front diff.

Here's a shot of the driver's side of an LB7 with the plastic wheelhouse removed. You can sorta see the oil cooler/filter assy to the right of the shock tower. Without specifically looking for the LBZ OPS in a 2006 truck, I can't tell whether this would help or not. I took this image during the early phase of a head gasket project.
