freon leak

I replaced my compressor due to a front seal leak, along with a new accumulator/receiver dryer and orfice tube. Including Freon around 225.00 in parts. All went together great and cooling best ever. Funny thing is where the orfice tube is supposed to be, per the service manual, there was none. Now that the tube is installed and system is leak free cools like crazy.
Total time about 4 hours inculding vacuum of the system.

Smart guy - I just paid $700 yesterday for exactly the same thing. I did get a new serpentine belt and idler...

Buzz,
Do you have rear a/c?
If you do then the orifice is in a different location.
C60(front) system the orifice is located in the condensor tube.
C69(front and rear) system the orifice is located under the passenger side battery.
