I'm looking at purchasing the above referenced RV. The engine recently (June) lost power and then had a connecting rod poke through the oil pan.

A couple of friends have suggested that this may have terminally damaged the engine from being rebuilt. I contacted an engine machine shop and they quoted $4500, plus parts to perform the rebuild. They also quoted $4500 for a Jaspar long block and $6500 for a Jaspar complete engine.

I found a complete 1994 6.2 engine assembly with an attached 3L80 transmission from a 1994 Hummer H1. This is around $1300 shipped.

I won't myself be removing and installing the engine. I've contacted a repair shop that handles diesel engines for a quote. A shop where I am said book time is 13.5 hours to R&R, plus parts swapping labor.

I know there are potential issues with this swap. Do you think it would be able to be completed or will it be likely to swap the old pulleys, ac, alternator, etc onto the later model engine?

The 1994 engine makes 160 horsepower/285lb-ft torque, so a nice increase over the 130hp/240tq from 1983.

Appreciate any comments advice and suggestions on this...

Thanks!

But i would wait till someone else confirms befor putting down any cash on the deal

Space is extremely limited in the engine bay of the Chevy Vans, and the 6.2 takes up all of it. If the Hummer engine is dimensionally different, you might have some problems.

Engine is exactly the same except for the bolt holes in the heads for the intake
