View Full Version : Crank no start
So Friday I had a fishbite and stall episode. Pulled over truck started fine and ran great rest of the day. Saturday truck starts fine, run some errands and proceed to replace water pump and radiator. I had disconnected the positive cables. Got that all done and now the truck won't start.

My 98 has a bunch of electrical issues that went away after changing the switch.
Same on my 2004 Topkick.

Ignition switch is little box on lower steering column not the key cylinder.

Not on my 98 or 04 they were mounted on the column behind the key tumbler.
Every GM I have owned had the switch on the top of the column about 6 inches or so down toward the firewall from the key unit.
There is a rod that connects the sliding switch to the key/lock unit.
Later ones that use the "chip key" may be different.

No chip keys on my trucks
Our 2007 Avalanche has the chip key
Spendy to get extras made.
We only got one key with the rig....so had to get an extra.
The 07 does not have a locking column either....I was surprised at that.

When the batteries have been disconnected,. The first start the glow plugs cycle off very quickly.
Takes at least two tries,...

I run into people that do that around here too.
Did they learn on British cars?
Good way to weld your wrench to the chassis.
