I'm not sure what others experienced with the 97 fan clutch, but since doing the upgrades to cam gears with the package I hear the fan clutch engage when my temps start to approach 190-195 and it pulls the temp back down to just under 190 as the fan noise subsides.
The previous stock fan setup (1995) would easily wait until temps were over 200-205 degrees before I heard the fan engage. Maybe I just lucked out, but the 97 clutch with the Duramax fan is a real sweet combo.
