Hi everyone, I heard that the 2020 2500 & 3500 Duramax's will have more towing capacity and a new 10 speed automatic transmission. I don't know if it will be another Allison, I hope so. Anyone know ?

Cool ! Thanks for the link. I wonder if it will get even better fuel economy with the ten speed and the taller gear ratio ?
I was talking to a construction Contractor and he has 5 Diesel trucks. He has 2018 ford 6.7 a 2017 Ram and a 2018 Chevy all are Crew cab dually diesels with automatics.
He has an older Ford and Dodge regular cab 2500 also.
He said the Ram gets the worst mpg the Ford and Chevy are pretty close to the same, but the Chevy gets a tad better. He said the Ford and Chevy pull the best.
He has less problems with his GM products and will be leaning that way on his next purchase.
Will be interesting to see what the new GM's do.

Impressive performance claims, to put it mildly. When will it end?

I don't know if the economy will be an improvement. They didn't mention it, so doubtful. I don't think they really care, being GM (and the others) dumped their econo-lines (no more US compacts, and very few sedans). If it ain't an xUV or truck, none of them seem to have any interest in marketing or building them. A lot of disappointments in that department, just when they got a really good generation of cars on the road. No doubt they'll regret it. Just a guess, but the big 3 will all be bought, or majorly owned, by the import companies (and/or China). A sad end to an era, IMO.

I guess my bone stock 2006 LBZ is just too far outdated to do the job?

But it is paid for, tows my big fifth wheel RV nicely, doesn't ever downshift on the interstate and it is only a 6 speed trans with 1/3 less torque than the newest ones. But....

I don't care. I'm going to drive it a bit longer and it can't spell DEF.

My dealer sent me a massive PDF price/features workup for a 2020 LT that pretty much duplicates what I have now in my 2009. I can't attach it because it's 220 megs, but the core info is below:

Base Price $40,800.00
Total Options $13,845.00
Vehicle Subtotal $54,645.00
Destination Charge $1,595.00
Grand Total $56,240.00

Availability ot the regular cab, long bed models in October or November, as everyone seems to want longer cabs and more wheelbase, so that's what they evidently are focusing on. As you would expect, most of the option number is the diesel and 10 speed Allison.

Ed I have the same truck. Maybe on paper its not the strongest. But when I pulled out of San Jose CA with fifth wheel I was 23500 gross. We headed to Nevada then on to Hurricane Utah. Parked there for two weeks and went sight seeing. We dropped down into the upper end of the Grand Canyon then climbed to Sana Fe. Some long grades for sure. I just let that LBZ and Allison work where the Pyro was happy all the way to Knoxville TN. Truck ran like a dream.

I spoke to a friend a while back about new trucks... He had just bought a fairly new Dodge Cummins. The Dodge dealer he visited had a new truck on the lot with all of the bells and whistles for a whopping $103,000... After catching my breath, I asked if he had considered it... He said no... as in H E double L NO. Can't imagine man-splaining that to the wife... :o

Be careful with the "Options"... when considering a new truck.
