152,000 miles on stock injectors?

Will stock injectors last 152,000 miles? I bought the truck when it had 106,000 miles. Don't know if they where ever changed before? Not having any problems just wondering if it's a good idea to change out? smile.gif MTNHICO

eventually they get weak along w/injection pump. if they wear @ same rate, they remain a good match till one or the other starts gettin a little too sloppy (IP won't put out 1700 psi, but injectors pop @ less than 1700 when worn...) and then its time to do something. If you get a new IP, you may need new injectors @ same time.

Hey ucdavis, got new IP at 122,000 under warranty. Dealer made no recomendation for new injectors. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing? :eek: Not that expensive for improved preformance!? MTNHICO

If the injectors are 100k miles plus, you may notice a real difference when they're replaced.

As previously stated though, if the IP has done the same mileage, it would be sensible to replace it at the same time, since the new injectors will place a higher load on the old IP. It's not unknown for a worn pump to not have enough "oomph" to pop the injectors properly.

I got 300,000 out of a set of injectors and Ipump in a 95 suburban. The pump went first, then replaced the injectors when the fuel milage did not return. Didnt notice any difference with the new injectors. Then the new Ipump died about 6 months after the original. What an arguement to get any warranty from the rebuilder. Still not done with that. Seems they NEVER have any warranty claims. Funny how the burb runs fine now that we are on # 3 pump.

I have almost 165,000 on my '92 (mechanical injection) and it runs great & pulls my 31' TT easily. I'd love to get 300k like Mark! When I replace my IP, is there anyway to avoid the horror stories of bad pumps? I think the '92 mechanical might not be as prone to bugs & failures, but I only want to replace it with something I can count on. This truck has been just the opposite of a lemon, although it runs quite a bit stronger with a good hot mixture of Powerservice. I live a few blocks from Pueblo Diesel Injection who rebuilds a lot of Stanadyne stuff along with all the rest, but I'd rather go with something tried & true, if available.

At 152K miles, my '99 6.5TD Suburban was running great, but I decided to change the injectors (They had been sitting around for about 10 months waiting to be installed) to see what improvements I would get. It had the original injectors and I replaced them with new OEM's from JK. There was no "seat of the pants" improvement that I could feel and mileage is exactly where it was before the replacement. The first few weeks after the injectors were replaced, it did start a little harder - so I fear my pump may be a little weak. Now (after 6-8 weeks), it is about the same as before the change, or I'm just used to it.

I do notice some black smoke now on a hard acceleration now, which I had never noticed before, but it may have been there......

I'll wait until the winter to see if the pump is able to start it well in cold weather before I change it. I am considering having the pump tested to see what the pressure is at. It would be interesting if we could get some data in this area to see if there are any tendencies for pumps to wear out in a certain mileage.

I wonder what stanadyne considers a normal pump life to be?

I have 183,000 miles on the injectors in my 97 Suburban and it runs great.
Did talk to the guys at the local diesel shop and they said the injectors should be good for at least 250,000 miles.

I replaced mine at 100,000 miles because I had a loud ticking coming from passenger side of motor. What I found was that the engine ran smoother, acceleration is noticeably better, engine runs approx. 15 degress cooler, shifting (standard) was easier both forward and reverse & the little bit of white smoke I was getting disapeared.
I put in brand new injectors straight from G.M.
Down side was :confused: I still had the ticking :confused:

Oops. I shoulda said:
If you change the injectors, you may need to change the pump also. Doesn't create a need the other way around; good pump will pop weak injectors, though may send a bit more fuel than spec.
BTW, good swindle on the 122k warranty pump (I assume you are in miles not km). Warranty dies @ 120k. Bout time somebody got a better than spec deal on the warranty to make up for the many who got less (I can't get reimbursed for my new one @ 25K cuz it happened in Mexico where no dealers ever sold electronic injection).

140,000+ miles on the 300hp marine pump and injectors from Peninsular, stills runs great. I do add Power Service fuel additive to every tank, which helps with water, lubricity and cleaning...

We have 195,000 on the green suburban and while the truck was torn down for a DS4 R&R, we had them checked. They popped to spec and had a good pattern.

250,000 on my '83 with original injectors, but the sore point is I'm on my third IP pump. Still pulls very strong on the highway. She is getting pretty rusty now.
