Hey erybody, I'm new here, but have a quick question for ya. I have a 98' k1500 6.5. Runs great, but the code p0236 intermittently pops up, and takes my turbo with it. My turbo works about 25% of the time. I replaced the MAF sensor, the air filter, had a mechanic check all vacuum lines and pump itself. I've replaced a few other things that I've forgotten, but long story long. I've narrowed my problem down to either a failed boost or wastegate solenoid, OR!!! my terribly loud exhaust manifold leak. Someone help please, I'm running out of both time, and money.... and patience. Thanks kin.:confused:
HI
Check your vacuum pump and make sure you have at least 26" of vacuum at the pump.
Vacuum test gauge needs to be steady... If the gauge wobbles all over the pump is junk.
Be sure the vacuum is steady at the solenoid as well.
With engine idling there should be about 22" of vacuum at the waste gate actuator.
If the actuator has good vacuum, be sure the gate moves freely with the engine off.
Poor or no vacuum at the waste gate is an indicator of a failed solenoid
The solenoids were problematic on these at times.
Fix the exhaust leak.

Okay, my mechanic told my that my pressure from pump was steadily around 20"... I'll try the solenoid seeing as I've already ordered it, but will re-check all vac lines including pump. Thanks boss.
At the pump (connected directly) you should see 26"
