noisy lift pump? How loud is yours?

My lift pump seems to be getting really noisy. I can here it with the truck running and the stereo on. Is this normal. Even worse when cold. Does the lift pump run all the time or only at idle?

The lift pump should run at all times when the engine is running, and during glow cycles before the engine starts. I haven't heard more than a half dozen, but they were all loud enough to hear over ambient noise before starting the truck, but usually once the truck is running you can't hear it anymore. You might want to get a spare, just in case...
