View Full Version : Harmonic Balancer AND Crank Pully?

I ordered a harmonic balancer and crank pully from GM Parts Direct. The crank pully was what I expected, with the rubber insert inside, which I incorrectly thought was the harmonic balancer. I got a true harmonic balancer, which appears to be a solid piece of metal, almost like a flywheel, to which I presume the crank pully bolts into. Question: do I need to replace the harmonic balancer? It looks wearproof.

There should be a thin rubber ring between the hub of the balancer and the inertia ring. This rubber can deteriorate...allowing the inertia ring to break it's association with the hub and do bad things.

OH, I see it now. Good. I thought I had wasted $65! I will install them both. Thanks for your help. I hope you get your boost thing straightened out.
James,
Would you mind posting parts numbers for the pulley and balancer from GMpartsdirect? I've got the same Sub you do, and will eventually replace both of these. Thanks in advance.]

Does any one know if the Harmonic balancer and Crank pully is the same for all 6.5L Turbo Diesels. I'm getting a sort of rumbling or vibration at highway speeds and since my truck has 245,ooo miles I want to change the balancer out just to make sure.
Thanks,
Bill
