rpm erratic

friend of mine has an issue with his 6.5. I didn't see anything on a search truck will idle fine, won't rev above 2500rpm and won't hold steady at any rpm except idle

any thoughts

Typically when I hear this I think injection pump. The metering gets sticky and does not move as quickly/freely as it needs to so the RPM takes off.

There has been a lot of activity at Stanadyne in recent years and from what I understand they are out or getting out of the DS pump and part mfr business. We grabbed up a few new DS pumps while still available.

hi john, thanks for answering. if this is the case and it just started to happen can I put some tranny fluid in the fuel to try and lube these again.

if so, how much with a 1/4 tank of diesel
