Hi everyone hope all is well. Well my 1985 burb with a 6.2 died last summer Now I bought a 1992 6.2 in a GMC 2500c body gone 4l80 trans that needs overhaul. This 92 6.2 has a computer, can I use it in my 85 burb with the th400 trans? how much of the computer and wiring needs to swap? Will the motor mounts line up? what about vacuum for trans and brakes. Thanks mudrunner.

Are you planning on dropping the whole turbo engine in the Burb?

You'll run into some problems for sure. The turbo setup won't fit without messing with the A/C system (conflicts with the evaporator box on the firewall).

Accessories are different, alternator position, a/c compressor, all different.

My recommendation is to strip that engine down to a long-block and swap all your 6.2L stuff onto the 6.5 block. Everything will bolt right on and work perfectly that way. You'll just have a 6.5 instead of a 6.2 in there.

The 1992 6.5 only has a computer for the transmission, only if it was automatic. Since your burb trans is a TH400 you won't need the TCM. You will need the 6.2L injection pump and all.

I'd pull both engines and have them side by side an swap over all the goodies from the 6.2 onto the 6.5 after you've undressed the 6.5 (including the injection pump).

Howdy
The 6.2 should swap just fine. actually the new one will have a serp belt set up that will be better than your V-belts. Both engines should have a vac pump. The new one might have a belt driven pump but Im not sure. Everything on the new 6.2 is mechanical. I think the only thing the computer is for was the transmission. The engine should run by itself with little trouble. You will have to swap the transmission controller on the side of the IP on your old engine and set it up for the new pump.
The other option is just swap out the long block and retain all the old accessories.
Good luck!
