Howdy
Just an update on the cooling system of my M1009 K5 blazer 6.2.
Last fall I decided to remove the clutch fan and go with two electric 3000cfm fans. I did this because in northern MN I could not get above 140* in the winter. Truck did not run right and I couldn't get heat.
This truck has a huge 4core copper radiator(factory), no AC, factory water pump, single Robert Shaw 180* stat, glycol with Water-wetter and ram-air intake system.
The electric fan option worked good in the winter, allowing the truck to get up to op temp and, except on the coldest days(-30) gave me pretty good heat.
SOOoooo, the big question would be: How would this work in the summer pulling a trailer?
Yesterday was 80* and I had a welding job. So pulled my welding trailer 30 miles on hilly roads in heat.
Happy to say it worked great, never got above 185-190 and my electric fans only came on briefly when I stopped.
Next is installing an additional cab heater so I can get a little warmer in the winter;)
