Howdy
Is there a way to determine if a water pump is the high output or standard? Is there a physical difference or markings?
This is on my sons 1993 truck. It has a single stat but the engine has been rebuilt at some point and we are kinda hoping that the water pump was upgraded.
Thanks!

Thanks for the response. Ya... we have all the books just had trouble locating the info I was looking for.
I revised my search criteria and found out some info. Sounds like some pumps have a cast marking "HO" but not ALL....
Well most likely run what we brung until it gives us reason to replace.
We did replace the stat due to it opening at about 210 and then only partially. Replaced with RS180.
Time will tell....

The water pump upgrade from Kennedy Diesel includes:
Water pump, crossover manifold, upper radiator hose, bypass hose, thermostat cover, heater quick connect nipple, 2 RS 330-180° thermostats with seals, crossover to head mounting gaskets, and 4ea thermostat cover bolts.
My understanding is that you need the dual thermostat cover and other components to take advantage of the high output pumps - otherwise you’re not going to get the additional flow.

I was going to buy the lower temp thermostat but I wasn't sure if it would work in the single stat housing

Did replacing the thermostat help?

svcattle-
We haven't put the truck on the road yet. I will let you know what results we have when we do.
Trbanki-
Yes, the HO pump only really sees any benefit with the dual stat housing, but I was hoping that MAYBE when they did the rebuild they put a HO pump on for good measure....:D
....Probably not...

IIRC, the HO water pump is 130 GPM while the earlier pumps were 87 GPM. Without the dual thermostat housing, you’re going to be trying to push more water than you can flow through a single thermostat.

We have a dual stat housing and if it had the pump in place I would put it on now. It doesn't seem that our pump is the HO version. With a good 180 stat in place, new LARGE radiator, and NO AC in front of it....I don't think we will have a cooling issue. If we do, then we will most likely make the switch to a dual stat.
Thanks!

I would like to use the 180 stat but I didn't know if it will work in my housing ? The Kennedy page says it will only work in with the double housing?

Howdy
I think the double stats are smaller outside diameter.
The Part numbers that I have found for high flow single stats are:
Flowkooler(robertshaw)- 370-180
Mr Gasket- 4367
Good luck finding the flowkooler!
The MrG is available but it is listed as a mopar product, it fits and has worked for me.
Good luck!

So the mr gasket is a 180 and you are using it in the single housing ? I found the flowkooler on summit but I want to make sure before I order anything

Make sure the flowkooler is the 370-180. Otherwise the stat you get will most likely be to small in diameter.
The Mr gasket is a high flow and the proper diameter.

I have a couple of those installed in mine. Coming down hills, my temps would drop down to 150, indicating that one (or both) are stuck partially open. A call to Mr Gasket was responded with "yeah, we have had problems with that." No offer to replace, just a "would you like to know a local retailer where you can buy a new one?"
I have since ordered 2 new Delco units that are waiting to be installed with the new engine.
