View Full Version : Camshafts
Does anyone know if the later (2009) cams in the Navistar blocks are different than the earlier cams in the GM trucks?

I don't think it really matters. The cam profiles are the same. To my knowledge, there's never been an issue with original 6.5L GM camshafts. Failures are so rare, they're barely worth discussion.

Thanks. Just didn't know if there was an updated cam profile for their higher power output. I'll stick with stock.

I think Heath has a new cam grind that he claims is his own that adds 40+ hp selling for $550+ . I can't find anyone that has used it or with any data, info on reliability though.

I'm not sure when the change was made, but there is a different camshaft offering from AMG. We just profiled one out of a P400 vs a stock GM 6.5 cam and they're different on a Cam Dr.. I don't know how the difference equates in real testing though, still working on that.
This isn't a P400 - it is a mil surplus 2009 block. So most likely just a stock 6.5 cam.
