Still trying to figure out an air filter setup for my 6.5 turbo Suburban. Right now I have the stock elbow with a NAPA 6637 filter(this is a fairly common "universal" filter for diesel equipment). It does work but this is basically the absolute worst location for an air filter. In the engine compartment and right next to the hot turbo. Another issue is it clogs fairly quickly due to debris slung up from the road(especially when it's raining).
Ideally I'd like to find a sealed filter housing that will draw from the stock location behind the grille(preferred) or maybe draw from inside the fender like the 6.5 trucks do. I've looked at the Banks setup but from what I've seen it looks like a poor design with several tight bends, small filter(from the pic I saw) and I'm stuck buying (K&N style) filters from Banks(no NAPA/Wix number I could find).
I know a lot of the 6.5 guys like the round style filter housing found on '99 and 2000 trucks but I don't think it would fit even if I build new A/C lines.
I'd appreciate any ideas/suggestions as I've given this a lot of thought and still haven't come up with a good solution.
