Good afternoon. I am new to the site and looking to get some info. I am looking for an older truck and have come across one that I like a lot. It is an 83 C model 6.2. It had the glow plugs replaced last June, starter and alternator at the same time. It was switched from mechanical to electronic fuel pump in july of last year. Has a new 700R4 and new brakes and so forth and so on. It will be my daily driver 55 miles to work and back every day. Is it worth the 3500 asking price? Body is in great shape compared to my old blazer and gas k10. I think i can get it down some but as far as the engine goes what do you think? has over 200k on it.

Thanks,
Mike

I just picked up a ’94 GMC Yukon with about 208K on the 6.5. With what you’ve listed and no other knowledge, it sounds like a good start.

Well that makes me feel more excited. I think I'm gonna try and get it

The price seems too steep to me, but then again I live in Alaska where there's been a plethera of 6.2 powered trucks running around that used to be used on the North Slope oil fields. They can be had in varying conditions, with tons of hours.

I picked my my 82 K20 for $1000 last summer.

It's unclear what you really have there, according to the pics. It's more likely a 6.5 TD (minus the turbo) or N/A drop-in, or much has been modified, however it does have V-belts. The intake is from a 6.5L. Verify that it is, in fact, an electronic system. It doesn't appear to be EFI (can't see the ESS), but I may be missing something. Look for a throttle cable, at the skinny pedal and at the injection pump. The EFI's don't have one, and the EFI injection pump doesn't have any mechanical input, of any kind. No exceptions, and it's all or none, meaning it can't be "partly" electronic. Converting an 83 to EFI is no light undertaking.

Post #6. Occasionally, hotlinked pics don't show up right away.

Guy told me it was a 6.2 with "j" code intake does that make it look right?

Ok, I see them now.

It's an "F" code intake from a 6.5. It will fit the 6.2, so what's underneath may be original. Nothing negative about that, except the air intake is under the hood. This really handicaps a N/A engine. Still, it doesn't look like an EFI fuel system.

So do you think it's worth 2500?

Zimbabwe dollars? Sure.

Other than that, maybe, but probably not. $2500 for that truck, I dunno. I'd have to get up close and personal. Several mis-matched sheet metal parts usually means abuse, wrecks, or rust. None of which are good, and won't likely be limited to only those parts.

We need more PIX
All 4 sides and the interior would help a bunch to really make a good judgement on value.

More shots of the engine

Is there a throttle cable connected to the injection pump ??

Get a good piccy of the engine looking down (get a ladder)

With this many years under it's belt, anything is possible.

Back yard mech's can and do swap just about everything imaginable.

My feeling is this.

If the truck overall does not have a rust issue (pics look good) and it runs good, plus if the interior is neat and not like a rat nest, then it may well be worth the asking price.

Glass all good ???

Tires good ???

Condition is everything at this stage, miles mean nothing.

It's a small rust piece under the door. Dash is cracked and it needs the seat reupholstered. Brand new tires new transmission, year d glow plugs new from bearings, valve cover gaskets, whatever intake it is. It's his daily driver. He started at 3500. Comes with an extra fender. I checked it out with him at work but didn't see him or hear it run. I will get more pics next time I see it. It's 3 hours away. I can't make a move until I sell my mustang. I was looking for a clean K10 not even looking at the diesel this came up and I researched the vehicle a bit. I love the MPG's since I drive an hour to work everyday, and want something to keep around and mess with as my kids get older. If it runs well I'm gonna jump on it. God forbid it does have a major issue afterwards. Looking from outside and test driving what should I look for. I know it's no dura max or even the fords we run at work so I'm looking to your guys knowledge to make a move on it. He's firm at 2500 tho

So to add to the topic what would be a better deal this 83K10 with 230K or a 95 K2500 6.5TD with 254k. Aside from depends on which one was better cared for. As far as daily drivability? I go an hour to work and an hour home everyday in the Norfolk Yorktown Va area and it's a traffic mess. Which would you pick?
