I have recently installed a cko hx40ii turbo on my 1997 c3500. I purchased the down pipe kit and waste gate spring. The problem that I am having is getting the boost to stay below 15psi. I have tried an assortment of springs going lighter each time but am still seeing 20psi or more when loaded. Today I decided to take the spring totally off and let the waste gate stay open amd the turbo still made 13 psi but was kind of laggy. I do not have a real problem with the lag as it is used to tow. My question is this. Would this be harmful to my truck to run with the wastegate open or would it have an adverse effect on the EGT's. I did notice that the boost at 60mph with cruise set and no load was about 2 to 3 psi. My truck has a 4" diamond eye exhaust, 2.5" crossover, heath towing tune, kennedy fan clutch, new bosch standard injectors. Forgot to mention that when installing the down pipe kit i noticed that the hole for the wastegate was only about 1/2" in diameter.
