So I have several vehicles.... and I live in North Pole Alaska.
My 82 Chevy K20 typically sits in an unheated shop, that I warm up prior to and after it's plowing adventures. The last few weeks we've had temps from -7 to -58 with most of the time spend in the -30 to -50 range. Thanks to other vehicles and their issues, the plow truck was parked outside and since it doesn't snow when it's that cold I didn't plug it in.
My other vehicles have block heaters, engine oil pan warmers, transmission pan wamers, battery warmers, and some of them have battery trickle chargers. The plow truck has only a single block heater.
Well it sat outside for two weeks, in the cold. I run Amsoil OE 10W-30 Diesel oil in it. I plugged the block heater in for two hours at -35 yesterday afternoon and I barely touched the starter and it came to life and purred like a kitten. Even plugged in, most of my other vehicles turn over a touch slow, and struggle for a moment before they begin to run smoothly in the cold.
The batteries are a few years old, 650 CCA....
It's a gutless beast, but it runs good.
