I have a stock 94 3500 and although not very familiar with the engine its self have done many engine swaps in other vehicles. i guess my main concern is my block broke where the starter mounts to it. im sure the bottom end is not very healthy anyway 330,000 very abusive miles. Now to my question is there a difference in blocks throughout the production models. not including the p400. in my head theoretically i should be able to take any year and swap the top end and it will function perfectly. what would i have to use off the old engine to get an engine newer like 96 and up to funtion properly. i do not currently have one to swap in but have my eye on a couple donor trucks and pulled engines. just would like all the information i can get before buying an engine and it not being compatible. thank you

Howdy
IMHO- a 1999 and newer block with smaller oilers is desirable. cast number was 599(???) A good steel crank would also be the best option and then maybe consider a fluiddamper...
