Tank leak

'02 D/A crew cab, Noticed the other day that when I filled the truck up, I had a fuel leak for a day or two until the fuel level came down. Appears as though the leak is on top of the tank. The tank is non metal, and with the new pickup assembly is all plastic including the hide connections. Can't see how that would leak if it's all plastic. The truck runs perfectly so there's no leak in the supply side line. Return line connection? Before I pull the tank down, any thoughts on this?

My '05 had a tank leak when the tank was full. Drove the (used) truck off the lot, filled it up, and started heavily dripping fuel on the ground. Why? Whoever installed the 5 wheel iron in the bed drilled right through the top of the tank:mad: I maneuvered a plug in there and it still weeps but keeps the dirt out and the fuel in.

I'd suspect a gasket at one of the tank penetrations (New pickup line assembly, you say?). Breather tube that goes back to the fill pipe?

There is a plastic vent line at the rear of the tank that can be damaged when installing gooseneck hitch etc.

The rubber seal could have deteriorated, but that has not been common. I really haven't seen tank end corrosion with the lines due to the sender being plastic. A bit of low pressure air in the tank and a pump sprayer of soapy water is probably the best way to leak test. You can and should do this with a low fuel level.

Lift the box off instead of dropping the tank.
Unless you have some aftermarket stuff like hitch or tank or canopy or... to complicate it.
