Hi everybody, new to the forum. I have an issue with my 1997 Suburban. It works fine, and when using it for more than 30 min., sometimes it feels as if the turbo stopped working, and i notice smoke coming from the exhaust. The first time it happened, I had bought a diesel filter, so I turned off the engine, change the filter and worked again like a charm. The second time it did the same, I was just around my house, so I parked and started the car until next day, with no issues at all. I'm thrown as to what the problem might be. I thought it was the diesel filter, but now I'm wondering if it is something with the turbo.

If anybody can gel, I'll be very thankful.

Regards

Welcome to TDP :):):)

Any codes (ses light) ???

Check to see if you have vacuum at the waste gate servo

You should have about 15" HG

Check vacuum at the vacuum pump, should read a steady 22-26" hg

If needle is wobbling a lot the pump is shot.

It happened again, like someone disconnected the turbo off. I got a Service Engine light and had my scanner with me. The code was P0236. Doing a search, I found out the code is a malfunction of the Turbo Boost Sensor that goes on top of the manifold. I order it, and probably going to replace it on friday. I hope it's not the PMD module.

When you replace it, make sure to check all the lines/wires to and from. make sure and check the turbo vac regulator and all the vac lines associated with it. Make sure your vac pump is functional

Thanks. I'll check them. The funny thing is that when driving in the city, slow and heavy traffic, is when the problem occurs (like switching the turbo off), and the engine temp is good. Maybe with higher temps, the vac pump and lines malfunction?. I hope it is juste the turbo boost sensor.
