Broken Connecting Rod

On our return trip from Florida to northern Michigan, at about 9:00 at night we were around a hundred miles from our destination when there was a loud bang and the engine shut down. After we rolled to a stop I got the flashlight looked under the car and noticed engine oil sprayed down both sides of the engine.
When we got it on the lift the next day there were rectangle slots about two-three inches long and about the width of the connecting rod in the block on both side of the engine. The holes were in the lower part of the block, there was some damage to the top of the oil pan and a mark on the starter. It appears a rod in one of the front cylinders broke not far above the crank.
There was no warning of this, no knocking, oil pressure was 50 PSI, EGT was 375, fuel milage was running 20.5

Update:
The dealer called yesterday to tell me the engine was out and I could look at it.
The original information the service manager gave me was wrong. The rod that broke I think was the number 7 cylinder if the number one is the front drivers side cylinder. I don

Just a tip,
While the engine is out replace the motor mounts
Also when job is finished check that the oil lines are not rubbing on the front differential

I got the truck back this morning and took it for an 80 mile run to do the Dr. Lee break-in. This engine runs great, seems to have more power then I had before.

Glad you have things back together. I havn't heard of many rod failures on these engines.

The trouble code was 35, I cleared it we'll see what happens on the 1400 mile trip to Florida.
