Howdy
Just be the picture I would say that is a temp sensor boss that has been broken or is missing the sensor lead.

The bracket is factory, the plug inside is a 1/2" NPT to 1/4" NPT reducer, most likely was used by someone for a water temp sensor (wrong place though for that though).

Yessssss, or something

Looks like this is on the LH rear ????

Depending on what vehicle it came from, it can be one of several things.

Early engines had a glow plug controller in that hole.

The same port on the other side is used for either a cold advance switch or a switch that keeps the glow plugs off when the engine is warm. (Stops plugs from coming on during warm starts.

The remains of whats left, as shown in the pix are ????

Just toss it and no worries, as it's not anything major.

Screw a pipe plug in the hole and your good.

Hope this helps

G'Day mate
