I was messing around with the truck today. Tested a PMD I tried to repair and took the direct connection of the lift pump off and made it normal. The lift pump now runs through the oil pressure switch and the the lift pump relay. Also, I went ahead and changed the lift pump relay as I was standing there and it was only 13 dollars.
The truck has a known good PMD, starts and runs fine, however under hard acceleration it puts out black smoke.
The P0231 code has been in for over a year. The P1656 code is new, however I have been noticing the black smoke for a few weeks, and I would not have noticed the code because the P0231 has had the Check Engine light lit for a long long time.
On final strange thing, my blower motor on the AC/Heater stays on all the time now. I cannot turn it down, up or off. Odd....real odd.

I did check the fuses, they checked OK.
This is a 2000 model 1 ton with 150,000 miles on it.
