This is the turbo I have going on my 6.2 build.
Has anyone ever ran one of these, OR , see any reason
why it would be a BAD choice for my 6.2?

It does not have a wastegate at all, so not 100% sure how well that will work, but it is in like new condition and was free. I am installing a boost gauge and my target is 7 PSI of boost max.

Also of note, if it matters, the fuel pump was set to factory N/A spec in spite of me specifying to set it for turbo applications. So there is NOT a lot of fuel going through the pump. (Beyond factory 1982 6.2 fuel specs)

Ideas, comments, concerns appreciated!

thanks!

What was the Holset H1C non-wastegated turbo used on?

It will be OK, you may need to turn the fuel screw up some, you can find that out with a boost gauge & egt .......

I know others that are using the same turbo...

I was told it came off of a 1992 Dodge Cummins.
I do not have a EGT gauge, but do have a boost gauge.
Did not see any reason in having an EGT gauge since I am keeping the boost under 10 psi. (Actually turning the fuel DOWN! lol )
The REASON for this whole setup is in an effort to increase MPG's and also have just a wee tiny bit more power. Say,,,165ish HP range.

This is a MPG champ truck, not a puller. My biggest trailer is a 5'x8' tilt bed lawnmower trailer! haha! So I dont have to pull any big loads. The trailer axle would snap before I run out of power even in what was it's N.A. factory settings! :-D

If this is your MPG project, there are other things you can do to improve fuel economy. An OD 700R4 automatic will give you 5-7 mpg. My 1982 6.2L diesel went from 17-18 mpg to 24 mpg after installing a 700R4 automatic. It had a 3-speed non-OD auto before.

A turbocharger may not help fuel economy (more exhaust restriction) in a purely fuel economy rig. I saw no difference in fuel economy after installing a Banks turbo system - when I could force myself to drive easy. The problem with a turbo is that I had to "use" it more often. which actually decreased mpg.

Thanks Jim. I have been thinking about a good rebuild-able 700R4 from a 6.2/6.5/454 for about 6 months now.
Right now I have 3.08:1 axles, TH400 (1:1 final gear) trans, and 31" tires.
By the math, I am running right on 1836 RPM @ 55 MPH.
I usually drive mostly back roads to work at 50 MPH yielding 1669 RPM.
A 700R4 ( 0.70:1 final drive ) would give me 1285 RPM @ 55 MPH
and 1168 RPM @ 50 MPH. That sounds wayyyyyy too low to me.
----scratches head----
COST is a BIG factor too.
Lets say I gained 8 MPG!! ( 26 mpg avg!) from switching to the 700R4.
I would have to drive many many miles to recoup the cost of a reliable built 700R4. Plus, the TH400 in the truck now has about 9000 miles on it since a full rebuild, and the TH400 is dang near bulletproof.

One last thought:
IF, when the time comes,,,,,I change to BFG 33x10.50x15 AT's,
It would give me 1568 RPM @ 50 MPH and that to me sounds about ideal.
:-) Too bad I just put on a brand spanking new set of 31-10.50X15 Nexen MT's ! :-/
