View Full Version : trying ID my 6.5 block

Hi all
Ok, I am getting tired of running around. How do I positively ID my block. I bought it from a guy who told me it was a replacement motor for a 97 truck. I did not know enough then to look for cooling system changes ect.(it had the single thermostat setup) I know the block is a 506 and has the Navistar logo in the valley. how and where do I look to positively identify this block? it is going into a 1980 Scout, so finding parts has been tough not knowing exactly what year motor I have. any input is very appreciated thanks... Frank

RJ's pic below shows the Julian date D100 meaning it was a 2000 block. I;'m not sure what system the latest blocks use, but if you could provide this info it would help. The number is in raised letters:
