fuel tank presser

my1996 6.5L turbo chevy is creating a lot of presser in the fuel tank. which is causing my injector return lines to leak. is this normal?

replace the fuel cap. have ever replaced the lines?

No it's not, might need to blow a little low psi air through the return line system... You can also leave the fuel cap loose and it won't hurt anything....

As is mentioned,. i think you need to change the cap,. it's not pressure you hear as you loosen the cap,. it,s vacuum,.

I agree it is vacuum. My 93 6.5 was experiencing the same thing. The auto parts store said the fuel cap was for my diesel truck. They were wrong and my brand new tank was trying to implode. As soon as I replaced my fuel cap with the correct one things were all good in the neighborhood. No more leaks in the fuel system. Your better off buying your new fuel cap from GM, they will give you the right one. Good luck.

Back in the late 1990s a 1994 K3500 I owned at the time would leak a little fuel at the fuel injector return lines during certain times.

Fuel contracts as it cools and expands when it warms. In my truck, after sitting overnight, the injector return lines would leak during the afternoon because of increasing pressure in the fuel tank.

A new fuel tank cap solved the problem. Pressure/vacuum in the fuel tank should never exceed 2-psi or 1" vacuum.
