Sometimes a dead battery is just a dead battery...

While trying to figure out why my batteries were suddenly dead yesterday morning, I pulled all the big fuses out of the under hood fuse panel. When ?I went to put them back, I came up short one fuse. I have searched high and low and cannot figure out where it went, so I'm starting to think maybe I put one where I didn't have one before. there are 2 rows of fuses. I think I'm missing a 40 amp fuse. What I have is :
First row:
Stud 1 40 A (trailer brakes)
Blank
MBEC 50 A
BLWR 40 A
LBEC 50 A
STUD 2 30A (Trailer aux power)

Second Row:
ABS 60A
VSEV/ECAS Not used
IGN A 40A
Blank
IGN B 40A
LBEC 50A

Problem is, I'm missing one of the 40A fuses. Am I loosing it?

Yes. And, no. It says I lost one of the fuses...

I believe stud 1 is typically blank from the factory and needs to have a fuse added. I believe it comes wrapped up with the trailer brake accessory harness if memory serves.

I have a 2006? LBZ here in the shop and there is a red dummy cover/plug where the fuse for stud #1 would go.

Thanks all. Looks like I just lost the fuse. Can't for the life of me figure out how; they were all in the same place.

Anyhow, the problem turned out to be a bad battery. It tested weak but OK, but overnight it would pull the other one down to its knees. Can't imagine why, they've only been in service since August of 2005... ;)

So, what did you get for battery replacements?

We're out of the horse business and I've been contemplating whether or not to keep the truck at all. I have a friend who runs a junk yard ("I buy junk and sell quality used parts") and got a battery from him. Just today I decided it was more of a liability than a help, so I'm back to running on one battery for the time being.

I know this jives with your experience: I've never had an aftermarket battery that exceeded the performance of an OEM Delco.

I've been buying batteries from AutoZone and they last about exactly 4 years and the guys at Autozone tell me I'm lucky they last that long. In my car and truck . I get credit for what's left on the warrantee but that's just to lock us into buying our next battery from them . Maybe it's the long extreme heat we have here every summer. Buuut , my car is garaged and the garage is a but cooler than outside in the sun so it cancels that idea out .

I remember years back we all feared the leaking Delco batteries. I swapped my OE's with Optima reds. Now I have a bit of renewed confidence in the Delco's. I've seen some come in with quite a few years on them. My 2007 still has the OE batteries although I don't leave stuff plugged in to drain them as often as I had with the others.

My 05 still has its original batteries. Thought I might have to replace them this cold winter but they held on.

I just purchased an '05 2500 with original batteries and all seems to be turning great. I didn't think they were original until I talked with the previous owner. According to him it has been garaged all the time.

I bought my '07 Classic 2-1/2 years ago with only 32k on the clock, and the batteries croaked last year. I replaced them with Cat batteries (made by East Penn/Deka).
