This will be my first diesel truck and I have some questions. the truck is a 91 crew cab lwb 2wd last of the square bodys was a bbc truck I am swaping in a 6.2 na for reliability and econ the 6.2 came out of a 92
so here goes
1 the number on back driver side of block is 10149599 is that a good casting
2 will Humvee exhaust manifolds fit the frame of my truck
3 would a turbo intake and top hat help the motor flow more air
thanks for any help or advise

A big TDP WELCOME :D
The 599 is arguably the best castings GM ever made.

The Hummer manifolds are not likely to fit the Truck chassis.

Use a good dual exhaust with 2-1/2 to 3 inch all the way with good flowmasters or other good mufflers.

DO INSTALL a cross/H PIPE in the system ahead of the mufflers.
If you don't, the 6.2 is going to RAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP when you wind it up.

Make sure that if you use factory exhaust manifolds that have the EPR FLAP (BUTTERFLY IN THE OUTLET) that you fasten it open, or remove it.
These are only needed on the C engine with EGR.

The best intake is the "J" series (non egr) manifold.

These were made in dual plane and single plane types, both are ok.
You don't want anything with EGR

Do use the factory air cleaner and the silencer box. If you don't the sucker is gonna sound like the old 454 with the Quadrajet wide open all the time.

The intake air noise on these engines is atrocious without a good factory cleaner and silencer.

I bought a Blazer once that had an open element cleaner on it, and at road speed, you couldn't hear yourself think :eek

What tranny ??

Do the duel plane and single intakes act like gasers (duel=bottom end ) (single= top end )
I plan to dd this rig never tow more than 10k 3-4 times a year what pre cups would be best for good economy and power

Don't bother worrying about precups and such, doesn't make much difference in a non-turbo engine for towing. If it's a non-emissions engine, you're good.

The 567 heads have the better design for power, so if it's got 567 heads on it then you're good (567 is the 1990+ cylinder head design used on late 6.2 and all 6.5).

Single plane intake is the best, there isn't really any difference power wise between a single plane and a dual plane open intake. Just a little more noise on the single.
