My nephew has the following truck:
2007
Chevrolet
Silverado
Gas
90,000 miles

Several thousand miles ago it started burning oil. He just got out of the Air Force and most of it's usage has been up and down the highway back and forth to his home. Each trip would be 1,500 miles round trip. It would burn 1-1.5 quarts of oil on each trip. It runs good, doesn't miss, isn't leaking on the ground. He just got here a few days ago for Christmas and I noticed the exhaust appears to look more like my diesel than a gas engine should. I'm not saying it is black, but it definitely isn't light tan.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong and if it might be considered emissions related. We don't have emissions testing in Alabama so he doesn't know if it would fail or not. I know some of the emissions warranties are up to 100,000 miles so that is of key interest in addition to what might be the problem.
Thanks for any help.
