1997 Z71 with G80 diff piled up pinion bearing on the highway. Yoke pretty much welded in and am assuming it is hooped, and maybe the housing is too. I have a complete housing with open diff from same year and model. Can I just swap in the G80 using the pinion that is in the open diff? Thanks

The parts will fit, but a mis-matched gear set won't work. Why not swap the complete axles?

That's what I was originally thinking, but I do like the G80 in the winter(which only lasts for 6 months up here). Just wondering if the pinion in the open diff will be compatible with the G80. Both have 3.42 ratios

The open diff gear set, if it's good, will fit onto the locker carrier. Essentially, you'll salvage the carrier and whatever other good parts you need from the bad axle (except the bearings). If you've never built a rear end (successfully), you'll need a shop to do the gear set-up. I also suggest all new bearings and seals while you're at it (cheap insurance).
