Still have a couple of questions after sifting through many pages on this topic. I have a '01 HD2500 with the LB7 DMax. Was looking to install an electronic brake controller. Seems that the Tekonsha Prodigy is a popular item according to what I've read. I found the connection block on the firewall- seems straight forward for a plug/play application. I don't have the 30 (40) amp fuse on the forward battery post (easy enough to install one). My truck already has the round 7 pin connector installed from the factory so I'm guessing that I won't have to run additional wiring to the UH electrical center. Beyond adding the fuse to the UH block and plugging in the wiring harness for the controller, is there anything else I need to be aware of?

Somewhere in the threads I've read, was a reference to a Z82 RPO code on the glove box. I have no code indicating a trailering package.

If it's been properly wired, it's no more complicated than that. Install the fuse and you should be good to go. Also, the trailer circuits have independent fuses, so just because your truck taillights are working, doesn't mean the trailer lights are. There are individual fuses for running and brake lamps. Once you have the fuse and brake harness installed, check for power at the connector. Other than that, there's nothing more to do. Hook up, check, and go.

The big fuse is only necessary to heat up the battery feed terminal on the trailer plug aka the "black wire." This is the one that would power accessories and/or charge a battery. The Trailer brakes feed and deliver on a different set of ckts.

Thanks for the input. I do have the trailer lights working on a 7-to-4 pin conversion and those trailer fuses have gone before. Looks like the Prodigy P2 is the way to go now as it has a wider mounting angle range and costs the same as the original Prodigy. The Z85 (RPO code on my glove box) must be for the heavier spring package I have and I'm guessing that is what facilitated the install of the towing wiring harness from the factory. We'll see if it works. Thanks again.
