I got a used starter to replace my original starter. It says Delco Remy on the plate, so I'm thinking its original. It started spinning slower and slower, then finally died. So the replacement starter started great for about 3 times then stopped. Shorting the wire from the battery directly to the starter bypassing the solenoid got it to start. Shorting the solenoid did nothing. No click, nothing. So figured I would just get a ford solenoid and wire it directly to a momentarily switch on the dash. Now starts fine sometimes, and sometimes will just spin the starter. I read somewhere that the solenoid slides the gear before the motor starts turning the starter. Is this true? Or is it an alignment issue? Original knurled bolts and bracket were put on.
