Tight fitting 97+ air filter after upgrade-cover not closing

Just completed installing a 97+ air filter system on my 95 but have one problem and maybe someone here has the answer.

Everything bolted in just fine, but when installing the element, the back right corner does not like to close properly and almost seems like the element is too much for the housing. The latches really struggle to close it too. The front seals well, so not a problem there.

The filter element is AC Delco A1301C, GM #25168082.

You are using the wrong element for the box you have, you need to use the A/C 1300c.
The 1301 is the heavy duty air cleaner.
I tried to use the heavy duty element myself but found it won't fit.

Thanks - it is confusing as the airbox states right on it that you should use A1300C for normal conditions and A1306C for heavy duty or dirty conditions. A1300C is about 6.5" OD. The

I understand A1301C supposed to be the same dimensions as A1306C which is the one I tried using. It is about 7.2" OD and like you, was not able to get the cover closed properly. I haven't seen any other airboxes offered in GM parts.

I found an A1300C equivalent and it seems to be the answer for now.
