I have what I believe is a 95-98 6.5 intake, turbo manifold, turbo, and set of heads. What im wondering is are any of the factory sensors mounted in the intake able to be used for a boost guage OR replaced with one? What exactly is the spring vacum canister on the center of the intake for and is it needed for a 6.2 turbo setup or can I make a blockoff plate?

Lastly could someone give insight as to what year these parts are from? I pulled them off an engine in the yard. Gm8 turbo. single square stamped prechambers and really not alot of wires under the hood. Truck had the rounded style dash from later model trucks.

I'm sorry if all of this has been answered before. Trying to learn as much as I can about these engines and I'm on all the diesel forums and its hard to know who has what information. the search function on all the forums seems to be hanging up on me more often than not and I have a terrible memory.

Sounds like you have a light duty EGR manifold setup.

Take a look at these:

The upper intake on the left is off a heavy duty 6.5L, and has no EGR. The upper intake on the right is from a light duty, and has the EGR valve in the center.

Yes, you can block off the EGR valve in the center of the intake, but I would suggest you keep looking for a non-EGR intake setup, as that will allow you better air flow.

Here is a lower intake manifold that has the EGR passages:

Here is one without the EGR, so you can see how it is much more open:

I just drilled and tapped the upper intake for a boost gauge fitting. Really simple to do.

oh wow! what a difference. I didnt know there was a non emissions 6.5 turbo intake like the 6.2 j code.

I bet there not cheap to buy are they? guess I'll have to start selling stuff in order to pay for it.

thank you very much I appreciate the photos. mind if I save them for reference?

The non-EGR 6.5, it's an "F" code. The EGR 6.5 is "S" code. They aren't really more expensive, just hard to find. Look for any manifold from a HD 2500 (8600 GVWR) or 3500 pickup (vans/HMMWV's are different).

I have a non egr upper manifold but not the bottom part of the manifold... I could sell it cheap if you don't find one local....

Just an FYI

Having an EGR intake introduces huge amounts of highly abrasive carbon into the intake air stream.

This crap builds up on the intake valves and runners and eventually a chunk half the size of a hall closet will break loose and end up on top of a piston, BANG

I have seen this happen and the results are devastating.

It also causes more upper cylinder wear.

If you need to run one for visual inspection, just make sure it is deactivated.

Pulling the upper intake off of a high mile S engine will reveal a mess thats appaling.

We change air filters to keep out dirt, so why introduce all that carbon into the air stream.

I have seen the junk over 1/2 inch thick in the intakes before, yuck
