High oil pressure?

Howdy
I tried a search on this and din't really come up with much.
SOOoooo....I have a new to me 1986 M1009 blazer with 56k on the odo. It runs fine and the CDR is functioning with a slight vac in the block. I just installed a mechanical oil pressure guage. The line is taped into the oil sampling port that the military put on the cooler line by the radiator. On my guage the oil presure reads 65-70 psi cold idle, 45-55 psi hot idle and 55-65 psi hot on the road at 1800-2000rpm.
Does this sound normal? Seems high to me and I am wondering what could cause HIGH consistent oil pressure?

It depends on how you define normal. What you're seeing is the top end of optimal. Also, it depends on how the pressure is sampled. You are sampling at a different location than a "normal" gage sender is located, which is "normally" at the main gallery, not at the pre-gallery, pre-relief valve, test port. The system is very dynamic, and will register different pressures at different locations. What you are seeing is the system pressure potential, and not the actual system operating pressure. This is "normal".

Thanks Dmax! I know that it could be different readings depending on location but did not think it would be dramatic. Sounds like what I have is a health oil pump but I am not finding out what the op pressure is in the engine. Time to move the line...
