View Full Version : Amplifier Hook Up?
I just purchased my first diesel two weeks ago and am not very familiar with the electrical/battery configuration. I would like to hook up an amplifier for some aftermarket speakers and was wondering if it mattered which battery I used to connect the amp power wire to?

What's your truck? Filling in your profile will help this forum help you...
Speaking for up to '05 duramax, the limit of my experience:
The batteries are connected in parallel so it matters not which one you connect to. You might find it easier to connect to the + post that is available on the cable that's mounted on the power steering pump though. Should be a big red cap over it. A ground post is right there too.
Sorry bout that... I have a 2001 2500HD 6.6

It makes no difference where you hook in. Left, right, or the "jump start" connector between them. They are all interconnected, with no relay/isolator (like may be found on gassers or RV's with multiple batteries). The "jump start" pole may be the best location, as it has a threaded pole, and you won't have to mess with the battery terminals.
