Ok, so after doing an engine swap I’m making some modifications to my 1995 6.5L TD PMD (relocated, 4” exhaust and crossover pipe, new water pump for a 97). While I had the motor out, I added the HO water pump but not the dual thermostat. I found the dual set-up on e-bay and it came with two 180* thermostats and “attempted” to add the housing today. The dual thermostat housing is hitting the tensioner pulley and I’m unable to make contact with the left head. Is there something I’m missing? Do I need to find mounting hardware for the tensioner, alternator and power steering pump off of a 97?

Are you sure it is for a truck and not a van? Van heads are different. I put dual themostats on my 1993 with no interferences.

I have no idea. As I said, I bought it on e-bay. It was advertised as a Dual Thermostat for a 6.5L....Never thought about asking what vehicle it came off of.....

Now I'm concerned...

Oh yeah. This is covered in TDP 6.5 books concerning the HO Cooling mods.

basically you need to remove your alternator, and powersteerin pump from the big cast bracket. Remove the bracket from the engine and install your dual thermostat housing.

After the dual thermostat housing is installed you'll mark a place on the bracket where it interferes with the crossover housing. you have to grind clearance in the spot where it interferes. Not too bad, you need either a bench grinder, or a angle grinder, or both.

I think I may have found the problem. In the one photo, it shows and A/C compressor where the Alt is.....did the components get moved to different places?

The pic of the housing....the arrow is pointing at the area that hitting....

Ok....Thanks for the info. I'll tackle this when I do my oil cooler/line.

Lastly, Does the dual thermostat interfere with the oil fill tube? It seems like it'll be close.....

doesn't interfere with the oil fill tube.
