I bought a set of supposedly high quality glow plugs a couple years ago on eBay and installed them about a month ago. After about a week they quit working. They replaced a set of AC 11Gs that worked OK for the approx. one year since I had purchased and owned the truck. I was able to remove six of them which were all ballooned at the ends. They are labeled with the name: "WELLMAN 6A843G050". Does anyone have any info on these glow plugs? I guess I tried to fix something that wasn't broke and made it worse. Today, I ordered a set of QuickHeat ones from Kennedy to replace them. One of "The Diesel Page" books explains a method of removing them using vise grips and prying with a screwdriver. I'm afraid to pry much around and ruin the threads in the head. Has anyone ever tried screwing them back in and then using a drift through the injector hole to bend the tip, then backing out the glow plug one half turn, bending the tip the opposite way, and so on until the tip breaks off with a piece of rag inside the pre chamber to keep it from falling into the cylinder?

Hi
Welcome to the page.
If you use the search section there should be lots of info on doing what your talking about.I'v been lucky and all mine have come out easy.
I think the threads in the head will be harder than the glow plug.
Good Luck

If all else fails, remove the injector, plug the pre-chamber hole, break off the plug, punch it back in, and suck it out with a shop-vac. Don't buy glow plugs from Ebay. The Kennedy plugs will serve you well. Test and keep the good 11G plugs (they're good ones, nice and hot, until they quit, but they won't swell).

I saw a "tool" on another site someone has been making just for this, I haven't seen it other than pics but from what others have said it works very good. If you can't get it out let me know and I will send you a link to the tool... I think the price is around 30$ for the tool...

Hi Chris, The ones that stuck were at cylinder 2 & 8. I could see the end on the one at #2 and it looked too big to come out without breaking it off. I decided to try to work out the one back at #8 and with a lot of luck after rocking prying and indexing it for about 30 minutes it came out in 1 piece. The end wasn't swollen as bad as the #2 one. I put one in a vise and bent it back and forth with a hammer to see how many times it would take to break it off so I'd know if it would be worth it to bend it back and forth via the injector hole. It took about 5 or 6 times but the end finally broke off. I think I'll try it this afternoon. I can't find any record on which eBay seller sold me those glow plugs, but there is at least one seller selling the brand "Wellman". The listing says they won't swell and gives a one year warranty. They may have been redesigned since I bought that brand, but if not: "BUYERS BEWARE"!
