nasty smell !!

Hey there! About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a melting plastic smell coming from my heat vents. It only happens periodically, and only seems to come from the floor vents.I'm going to tear it apart tomorrow, but just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks!

Have not had the problem on my Chevy, but I recently replaced an AC blower motor on my wife's Chrysler, and used crimp connectors for the wiring harness. Weeks later, we had an attack of some sort of mold in the air box, and in the process of tearing apart the system, notices burn spots on the wires in the area of my crimp connectors. I replaced the crimps with soldered joints and heat-shrink. The fan obvously pulls a lot of power.
