My 02 duramax keeps loosing prime. It will start, but stall out soon after. Then I push the primer until I cant anymore. Then it will start and run just fine. I dont see any fuel leaks. I have a mega filter and a lift pump, but the lift pump stopped working. So I removed it and put the stock hose back on. Thinking that was the problem, but it wasnt. Its been doing this for a couple weeks. I dont drive it every day. The air temps have been below freezing for all this time not sure if that would have anything to do with it. Also it has new injectors, filters and the pump in October. Its never done this before. Scratching my head on this problem. Any ideas?

The Dmax fuel system will "make" air either through microscopic leaks or from the eraly stages of vaporization/outgassing. The Mega filter does a particularly good job of trapping this air. A lift pump simply ensures that the outgassing does not occur. Fix/reinstall your lift pump and the problem should go away assuming there is no issue inside the tank.

I need to see if the pump will be a warranty repair or replaced. Then go through and tighten all the connections. Thanks for the input.

That's the pump I have.

I scraped away some of the insulation on the wires on the pump. Then hooked it to 12v black /red wire to negative and red wire to positive. Nothing happens. So I would say pump died.

There's no such thing as a pump that lasts forever. Get a new one if that ones dead and go from there.

Send it to me and I'll inspect/repair/replace the motor as necessary.

These seldom fail in service. but are not infallible. Also note that you can barely hear them run and they start soft/slow and build to speed.

Drop me an email and I'll get you a RMA.

Be sure to include note on and in the pkg as to return address so we don't send it to an old or transient address.

I installed the replacement pump the other day. I let it run for a while before putting power to it. Had 3psi at the stock filter head. Then let it run a little longer. Shut it off and bled the mega filter. Started it up today and no loss of prime. I did connect the pump to battery for a second to check the connector plug and it squealed for a second. Then it quieted down.

Sounds like you got it.

I have been recommending that people do a quick drive with the pump powered down. When in doubt, power it down and drive a bit. This ensures that all of the air is "pulled" through the pump housing.

Ok I will do that just as soon as I can drive. I had surgery this morning. So it will be a while. Thanks.
