Does anyone know what is normal vacuum for a gear driven pump on a 6.2? I checked mine and it read 6 in. Hg. at idle and revving, no difference. ?

I think it's around 20 but I can't swear to it. I can say 6 definitely sounds way low.

It should be 20-26" at any RPM at the inlet port. 6" is a bad pump, or you have leak(s) between the pump and your test point.

I have one with a speed sensor on top. Can I just replace the "pod" or do I have to get the whole thing? Is there any difference with a federal emissions "pod"? I don't see any california emissions "pods". It looks like you have to buy the whole deal for a california emissions one. Thanks for your help.

The pod isn't serviceable. It's replaced as a unit.

I got a rebuilt vacuum pump "pod" and installed. Now I have vacuum around 22 in.hg. Do I need a check valve on the hoses? This one didn't have any check valve. Also the pod I ordered, delphi #1696 was supposed to be for a pump with a speed sensor. The inlet pipe interfered with the speed sensor so I had to remove my old one and install it. Not too hard. Any comments?
