Splitting transfer case , Not splitting

Hi All
gaskets finally arrived . Removed all the bolts and sensors on case and have split it all around
but
when trying to lift cover off it is holding tight on rear seal shaft gasket which in turn is lifting all the guts along with top case .
Is there a clip that needs to be removed so the guts stays in lower half of case? ( seal stays in case)
Or do I need to reattach a couple of bolts and pop out the rear seal before trying to get cover off over the spline .
Books are no help as they say just take it to the dealer .

On my buddy's 02 Duramax there was a rubber plug on the top of the tail housing it was about 3/8 wide 2" long we pulled that and there is a snap ring around the Bering and its a bugger getting the snap ring on and off not much room to work in that little hole good luck

I saw that plug on case :)
Will pull it and look for the clip .
Never would of looked there myself.

I don't know about your t case but on his there was a oil pump in there and it will break if you don't pay attention we found that out the hard way it was in the tail housing
