I've got the truck up in the air and need to remove the transfer case to replace leaking gasket .
It seems to have a spacer flange in between the transmission and the case .
The bolts go into the transmission and the nuts attach to the case side which do I remove to get the case out ?
seems the bolts would be way to go but the nuts look like the easier ones to get to but they have a gasket on that side of of flange where as bolt side seems to be gasket free .
thanks

The txfer case adapter normally remains bolted to the transmission when just the txfer case needs to be removed. But, it really doesn't matter that much where you break it. Although, the adapter includes the mount for the transmission.

One side of the adapter uses a composite gasket that must be replaced whenever the two parts are separated and the other side uses an o-ring.
