View Full Version : What is a GM 8.2L TD?
A v-8 turbo diesel allegedly from a 1994 school bus is described as a GM 8.2L. What might that be? A Detroit? International?
A little research shows it is a DD 8.2L 'fuel pincher'. The vast majority of opinions are they suck, no longer in production, and parts are scarce.
You will find them in a lot of city busses. Our church had one in a bus that was given to us. It was a good motor for us. Would start right up after sitting for months. Never had to buy any parts but the fellow who gave it to us bought it from a pool of city route busses and there was about 60 of them.

We had one for years in our c70 dump ... it ran great and never had any problems till the rear axle split in two and i ran into a tree ..lol But it was a real good motor , just like anything its not a race motor just take care of it
The 8.2 is a nightmare that you dont want any part of.
They had free floating cylinders at the cyl head end ( no real deck as you are used to)
When they were running they were ok, but once issues started it was a downward spiral.
They make a good boat anchor ;)
As mentioned, they came in medium duty trucks.
