Installing gauges

I'm going to install a get and a boost gauge on my 02 LB7. Where's the best place to put the thermocoupler and the boost fitting?

I looked on Kenndy's website. For the boost gauge it says "(except 2001)".

So what about us 2001 owners? Any tips for the boost gauge port?

Does the 2001 have the waste gate hose?

I'm not sure why he says "except 2001". That's where I did mine, and a few other 2001's, between the intake heater and I/C coupler.

If drilling/tapping while it's on the engine, a Shop-Vac is a good idea. Remove the heater plug (to allow airflow to the vac), and none of the shavings will get away. When I did them, I used a plastic cap (spray paint or some such) with a hole punched in it, to accept a shop air nozzle. It fit in the end of the pipe, and with the pipe pressurized, all the shavings blow out, not fall in. WEAR EYE PROTECTION!! If drilling/tapping the exhaust manifold (#7, on the flat spot at the rear), just idle the engine and all the shavings will blow out. WEAR EYE PROTECTION!! The exhaust gas is surprisingly "cool", so it won't torch you. If you go too slow with the tools, they will heat up, though. The manifold is cast iron, so use NO lubricant, drilling or tapping. Extra hands are helpful, but I did all of them solo.

Does the 2001 have the waste gate hose?

Yes. Same as all the LB7's.

The except 2001 is in regards to the intake gooseneck which is longer and more accessible on the 2002+ trucks. I dislike the wastegate hose installation for the relative insecurity. Also if you do a boost adjust valve it can alter readings.
